All you need is:

Small jars

Fine soil

Seeds in variety

Labels

Small watering can or sprayer

And now, all you have to do is get to work!

Prepare some small jars (7-10 cm in diameter) in plastic, recycled, those, to be clear, that you have left over when you bought and repotted some plants in past seasons, or pots for sowing: it is better to choose those in coconut fiber, which are biodegradable and can be placed directly into the new pot, without having to move the seedlings once they have grown.

The soil should preferably be fine, loose and light. The ideal soil is the one used for seeding lawns, but if you don't have it, specific soil for succulents or any other soil you can sift will work, avoiding the larger pieces and loosening any clumps with your hands. You can mix in a little river sand, if you have it on hand.

The seeds: Here comes the best part! Which ones to choose? There is something for everyone and, in general, all summer-flowering annual plants are very easy to grow. It all depends on the space in your garden, terrace or balcony, the amount of sun the new seedlings will receive throughout the day, and the size of the containers they will be placed in. The choice must therefore be made based on these considerations. In the sun (at least half a day), if you have a nice deep pot and a climbing structure, you can sow some splendid Morning glory, choosing from the many varieties. They are truly gorgeous and grow incredibly fast!

For larger or smaller boxes, choose from the many colors and varieties of Marigolds, Nigella damascena, Nasturtiums (which are also great to eat). And then Cosmos and Zinnias: there are many varieties but it is always better to opt for the smaller ones. If your balcony is in the shade you can sow instead Columbines, Violets and Nicotianas (some are even scented).

How to create a small vegetable garden at home

And why not create a small vegetable garden? If you want to not only enjoy the beauty of the flowers, but also reap the fruits of your labor, you can sow some horticultural variety. No vegetable is more genuine and zero kilometer than the one that grows directly in your home! The following are very easy to make: tomatoes, but prefer varieties with small fruit and limited growth. In addition to tomatoes, we suggest green beans, arugula, salads and pumpkins ornamental small in size… And of course basil, parsley and chilli peppers in quantity. Let's get started!

Fill the pots with soil almost to the edge; with your hand, apply light pressure to compact the soil slightly and, if necessary, add a little more. On the surface, place two seeds per pot, one if the pot is 5-6 cm in diameter... Now the rule is that the seed must be covered with one thickness of earth equal to the thickness of the seed itself. For example, if you sow a nasturtium seed, you can make a small hole, even with your finger, and cover it with half a centimeter of soil. But if the seeds are very small, such as those of basil, These should practically not be covered. You can then place them on the soil, sprinkle a small amount of fine soil and, with your hand, apply light pressure so that the seed adheres to the soil. As you sow, write the name of the plant on some special labels. If you don't have them, make them at home for example using a toothpick and a cut post-it.

Now is the time to to water. This operation is quite delicate because you must avoid dislodging the soil with the water jet. Use a liquid dispenser with a spout, pouring the water very gently, or use a spray bottle. Water several times, waiting for the soil to absorb the water and become completely moist. In the following days, this operation it will be easier, because only the top part of the soil will dry out.
